North Highland and Montclaire Elementary Partnership

October 19, 2017

During the past two years, North Highland’s Charlotte office has partnered with Montclaire Elementary through Junior Achievement of Central Carolinas (JA), an organization with a mission to teach young people about financial literacy.

Through this partnership, North Highland has provided 35 volunteers for the last two years to participate in “JA in a Day,” a program at Montclaire Elementary run by Junior Achievement where volunteers spend a day teaching financial literacy to first through fifth graders. The Charlotte office has also raised more than $20,000 through fundraisers to cover the cost of JA classroom materials.

The firm has also supported the students and staff at Montclaire by providing catered luncheons for Teacher Appreciation Week, providing classroom volunteers to work with students, donating books, baking cupcakes for the staff, and gathering a team of consultants to pitch in on a Saturday with rakes, wheelbarrows and paintbrushes for a beautification day.

Junior Achievement of Central Carolinas has asked North Highland to help it develop an “Adopt a School” model to share with other companies to encourage long-term commitment to volunteerism with JA and the local schools because of the Charlotte office’s successful partnership with Montclaire.

The firm is currently at work building out this model by developing the process and guidelines along with supporting materials. With its Sparks Grove division, it is exploring the possibility of creating a mobile app that will provide all the knowledge right to a user’s phone.

The goal is that once this model is piloted in the Carolinas, it would be shared with other JA organizations and North Highland offices nationwide, while also inspiring local businesses all over the country to partner with schools in need and make a positive impact on the community.
