Charlotte's Business Leaders, along with Al Gore's Climate Project, Assemble to Discuss Corporate Social Responsibility for the Environment
Charlotte, NC – August 19, 2008 – The increasing societal pressure to protect the environment and fight global warming has become a premier focus for Charlotte's corporate leaders. As such, a special presentation and panelist discussion on corporate sustainability initiatives will be conducted with many of Charlotte's leading organizations to discuss the current moral, social and governmental demands that are facing the business community today. The program will include a special presentation from The Climate Project, a non-profit public awareness organization created by former Vice President Al Gore.
The Climate Project, a nonprofit organization based in Nashville, TN, began operations in June 2006 with the mission of increasing public awareness of the climate crisis at a grassroots level in the United States and abroad. By April 2007, a diverse group of 1,000 volunteers from throughout the U.S. had been trained by Al Gore himself to present a version of the slideshow featured in the Academy Award-winning film "An Inconvenient Truth." As of May 2008, they had delivered more than 15,000 presentations and reached a combined audience of well over 1,000,000 people.
On Tuesday, August 26th, several of Charlotte's corporate leaders will team up with The Climate Project to discuss what leading organizations are doing in an effort to fight global warming. North Highland Consulting has partnered with the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce and Duke Energy to present this informative discussion on how to raise awareness of corporate social responsibility on the environment.
The event will be held at the Duke Mansion from 5:00 – 7:30 pm. Moderator will be Chris William, Host and Executive Producer, Carolina Business Review, and panelists will include Hilary Davidson, Director, Sustainability and Community Affairs, Duke Energy; Pat Mumford, Senior Vice President, Environmental Affairs, Wachovia Corporation; Michael Chenard, Director, Environmental Affairs, Lowe's Companies, Inc.; Kelly Boone, Program Manager, UNC Center for Sustainable Enterprise, UNC Kenan-Flagler; and Steve Campbell, Vice President, North Highland Company.
