North Highland Company Enables Disadvantaged Children to Express Themselves Through Photography

May 1, 2007

The Denver office of North Highland, a worldwide consulting company, will sponsor an exhibit of photographs, taken by children involved in a program at the Sunshine Peak Academy, Knowledge Is Power Program (KIPP).  The exhibit is scheduled for May 5th, 2007 from 7pm-10pm and is being held at the Space Gallery in Denver, Colorado.  There will also be a live auction of the framed photographs, along with various trips, wine and jewelry.

William Browning of North Highland and his wife, Hilary, were already frequent volunteers with the KIPP Program at the Sunshine Peak Academy, so when William proposed the idea of an exhibit to his office, the entire team jumped at the prospect of being involved.

North Highland funded the project and provided digital cameras for 15 students.  Over the course of the year, North Highland employees volunteered to train and work with students, ranging from 5th grade to 8th grade.  Nearly 5000 photographs were taken!  "Seeing what the world looks like through the eyes of a child – especially a child who wasn't able to afford a good digital camera, was amazing," said William Browning.  "We have spent the past 15 months helping these students discover the joy of photography and it has been a very challenging journey.  This is one of those times in our lives where we have been able to see real purpose and meaning."

KIPP is a national charter school program recognized for helping economically disadvantaged students get into top tier college programs. http://www.sunshinepeak.org/
