Associate Vice President and DEI Leader Sucheta Misra was featured in a Black Enterprise article where she discussed how the lack of women of color in leadership roles affects the future of the workplace. Here, she provides insight into these challenges, such as how a lack of role models prevents women of color from striving toward leadership positions.
“This issue becomes exacerbated for women of color because they see so few examples in leadership positions across the board, and therefore, they don’t have many in-person or even figures in media to look to as leadership models.”
In addition to Sucheta’s insights, the article reveals how the immediate effects of the pandemic elevated black women in leadership. Yet, in the years since, they’ve been blocked by insufficient support and resources like mentorship, community, support networks, and opportunities to be vulnerable. Ultimately, this is an urgent charge to businesses to “identify and dismantle systemic disparities” in order to make positive change happen for women of color in the workplace.
