Today, we are announcing the 2019 honorees in the extra-small category — see slideshow — with additional honorees made public throughout the rest of the week.

The Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal is celebrating its 21st annual Best Places to Work awards — the Twin Cities longest-running awards program recognizing great workplaces. This year we are honoring 20 companies in the extra-small category (10 to 24 Minnesota employees), 15 in the small category (25 to 49 Minnesota employees), 15 in the medium category (50 to 249 Minnesota employees) and 10 in the large category (250-plus Minnesota employees).

Today, we are announcing the 2019 honorees in the extra-small category — see slideshow below — with additional honorees made public throughout the rest of the week. The honorees are listed alphabetically this week, but will be ranked by their score in our Aug. 2 Best Places to Work publication.

Our research partner, Omaha, Neb.-based Quantum Workplace, tabulated the scores and helped determine our honorees based on responses to a confidential employee survey it distributed in late March to all Minnesota employees of participating companies. And the competition was tough this year. We had a record number of nominations — more than 350 — which speaks to employers' efforts to create engaging workplaces to attract and retain top talent.

Here is our first round of honorees:

On Friday, we'll reveal our 2019 MVP honorees. These four individuals were selected from our Best Places to Work honoree companies based on votes and feedback from Quantum's employee survey. Their colleagues identified them as going above and beyond in helping to create their great work environment.

The Business Journal will celebrate all of our 2019 Best Places to Work honorees at an awards event Aug. 1 at Renaissance Minneapolis Hotel, The Depot.
