Throughout Hispanic Heritage Month, we are connecting with North Highlanders to discuss the importance and meaning of their heritage. Today, we connected with Lucia Gomez, a Marketing Director in our Atlanta office, to highlight how she is celebrating her heritage this year.
What does Hispanic Heritage Month mean to you?
Lucia: Hispanic Heritage means celebrating my Latina roots. Being proud of my upbringing, language, people and the richness of Hispanic culture.
How do you celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month? What are some of your favorite traditions?
Lucia: I celebrate my Hispanic heritage all year long. I recognize my roots each time I speak Spanish, listen to Latin classics, explore Latin cuisine and take an interest in topics impacting Latin America.
How would you encourage others to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, both this month and all year long?
Lucia: I would encourage others to explore the language (even if Spanglish), try the food and learn the dance!
Do you have any role models who inspire you to celebrate Hispanic heritage?
Lucia: It’s not just one person that inspires me. My “Orgullo Hispano” stems from my family. They inspire me to keep my culture alive and pass it on to future generations.
