Honoring Martin Luther King Jr. Day: A Message from Dan Reardon

Today we remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., whose leadership and actions have created lasting change in our communities and whose legacy lives on as a reminder to continue strengthening our world today. The past year has been difficult to witness, with headlines of racial injustice, oppression, inequality and civil unrest. Yet through these dark moments, Dr. King’s message of community, equality and justice continue to shine through as a beacon of hope. Today we can look to him as a role model to enact the change we want to see in the world.

I want to share a quote from Dr. King that I believe resonates with the work we’re doing within North Highland:

“If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” ― Martin Luther King Jr.

Dr. King’s words serve as a reminder that change doesn’t require big, sweeping action - a daunting notion to many of us. Instead, the value of change lies in helping those around us in any way we can. Our annual Day of Giving Back events demonstrate that one kind deed can create a chain reaction of sustainable transformation in our communities and the world around us. Even through the challenges of today’s socially distanced world, I’m proud of how North Highlanders are virtually coming together to give back to our communities and bring Dr. King’s vision to life. It’s a reminder to keep his spirit with us not just today, but every day.

Within the firm, it's amazing to see how North Highlanders have come together in the face of adversity to support open and candid conversations about inequality, with a commitment of listening more than speaking and learning as a form of action. Lasting change doesn’t happen overnight. I’m proud of the action North Highland is taking to fight injustice and to create a more inclusive workforce. I look forward to seeing how we build on this momentum in 2021 and continue creating moments of personal connection to build a better world – for each other and for future generations.
