Veterans Day is a time to say thank you to those who have served in the United States armed forces for our country and for the sacrifices they have made for our freedom. We’re honored to work alongside a number of veterans at North Highland. Veterans bring energy, perspective, and unique experience to our firm’s daily work. We can all learn from their perspective and focused approach to work, concentrating on the task at hand while staying calm and collected under pressure. Both in active duty and in their civilian lives, veterans know how to keep their eye on a mission and see it through, while anticipating the unexpected.
This year, we connected with members of Veterans at North Highland (VAN) to share their personal reflections on their service and how their service has shaped their experiences today. We’re proud of how VAN is helping to raise awareness of the challenges and opportunities facing veterans in the United States. Please join us in saluting these North Highlanders. Today and every day, we encourage you to reach out and say thank you to those who have served.
Lan Nguyen – Senior Consultant & Current Second Lieutenant, GA National Guard
"My parents immigrated to the US when I was young, and I grew up with far more opportunities than they ever had. I joined the National Guard because I think it’s important to be a part of something bigger than yourself - both of my siblings and I currently serve our country in some capacity."
Mark Coles – Tax Manager & Current Captain, Army Reserve
"I enlisted in the Army Reserve in 2008 because I felt that I should 'do my part' for the country. Now, after a decade in service, I am thankful for the privilege of serving. The Army has allowed me the ability to learn from some truly exceptional people and provided me once-in-a-lifetime experiences and opportunities."
Fernando Rosario – Senior Consultant & Former Lieutenant Commander, US Navy
"I’m really proud and honored of my 10+ years of service in the US Navy. It gave me a great opportunity to see the world and to learn and experience things I otherwise would never have had the chance to. When people say to me 'Thanks for your service,' I always reply, 'My pleasure!' because it truly was my honor to serve my country."
Joshua Beetle – Consultant & Staff Sergeant (Retired) US Army
"My time as an enlisted infantryman in the army was vital in developing the required skills and discipline needed to succeed in my professional career and help me achieve my personal goals. From where I came from, there was no guarantee I would have had the same opportunities I do today without my time in the service. The experiences I had, the places I traveled, and most importantly, the people I met will always be the most important memories of my service time."
